Akal offers homebirth services to parents who see birth as a natural, normal, healthy life event.

Women receive individualised antenatal care in their own home with Akal throughout their pregnancy. During visits they are given a full antenatal check up and they have time to ask questions about their pregnancy and the pending birth. They also have telephone and email access between visits to answer any concerns as they arise.

Akal attends women during birth for the full duration of active labour and for several hours afer.

Home visits are made following the birth to observe the mother's progress, assist her to establish breastfeeding and to check the baby. She will be able to answer questions and give advice on the care of the new baby. Vistis will continue until the lactation is well establshed and the baby has regained his/her birth weight.

Akal gave birth to her own children at home in 1979 and 1982.
